Jim Henkle and Jon Schuster are your hosts. Jim has 20 years in the antique business, and comes to Elizabeth from Long Beach, California where he ran an antique shop. He is also an avid cook and prepares full sit down dinners for all guests. Jon comes to Elizabeth from Orange, California where he worked as a registered nurse and spent off time collecting antiques and Asian pieces.

A 101 year old Victorian house built in 1904, we are located in the village of Elizabeth, Illinois. Elizabeth is a quaint little village reminiscent of days gone by. Four restaurants (all with liquor), two banks, a grocery store, and several variety stores from antiques to new items. The area is an artist’s haven, and there are two potters with shops located on main street.

The house is actually four stories. The bottom story is the garage and basement area where we do all of our antique restorations. The first floor consists of two parlors (pocket doors, bayed windows and antique wallpaper), a formal dining room, a large newly remodeled kitchen, and a family room with added dining space. A half bath is located off the kitchen for convenience of the guests. The first floor is open for guest use as well as being open to the public for purchasing of antiques.

The second floor is four bedrooms and a bath. The bedrooms are done as theme rooms. Asian, French, and “Around the World”. The fourth bedroom is the private master suite and currently not themed, (unless you would want to call it cat haven). There are two resident cats, Moses and DB who stay in the master bedroom during times when guests are in house.

The third floor is the “attic”, but don’t let the name fool you. It is a completely finished attic consisting of a large recreation room (TV, music, movies, books, games and relaxation. Off of the attic are two more guest rooms built into the gables. A very peaceful and relaxing place to kick back and enjoy.

There are many close attractions near to Elizabeth. The town of Galena (a fifteen minute drive) is a must see for any area visitors. Built in the 1800’s it is a shoppers paradise. Several golf courses are in the area offering the avid golfer options of where to play. If you have never played golf on rolling hills with 360 degree vistas then you are in for a treat. Dubuque, Iowa is a thirty minute drive and well worth it. Gambling boats are found along the Mississippi, there is great shopping in the downtown area, and plenty of night life. Winters offer cross country skiing, downhill skiing and lots of beautiful white vistas. Several lakes are located in the area for boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming or just kicking back. Biking (both motorcycle and bicycle) is a very popular sport in the area, with several races throughout the year.
